The 5-Hour Pre-Licensing Course is required by New York State before you can schedule your road test. Adrian’s Driving School is NYS & DMV-approved to teach it live online over Zoom, so you can take it from anywhere in New York State.
Who can take it
Every learner permit holder, including 16- and 17-year-olds. To attend you need your NYS photo learner permit — or an interim (temporary) learner permit together with a NYS photo non-driver ID. No passport or other documents are accepted, per NYS DMV rules.
What the course covers
Taught live by a licensed instructor, with a video and a lecture, the course covers the rules of the road, the real consequences of drinking and driving, the importance of seat belts, and safe, defensive driving habits. There is no final exam.
What you get
When you finish, we mail your MV-278 Pre-Licensing Course Completion Certificate to the address on your learner permit the next day. It is valid for one year, and you need it to schedule your DMV road test.

Classes run every Thursday at 5:00 PM and every Saturday at 10:00 AM, online via Zoom only.
